SKU: APX-C-108-011 Category:

This is a direct-replacement revolver firing pin designed to improve ignition reliability in Smith & Wesson J, K, L, N, and X-frame revolvers. It addresses light-strike issues that can occur after trigger-action work or when using reduced-power mainsprings. The pin is machined with a precise tip geometry to deliver consistent primer impact, and it ships with a reduced-power firing pin return spring to further reduce drag on the hammer fall.

Compatibility

  • Smith & Wesson J-frame (Model 36, 60, 340, 442, 642, etc.)
  • Smith & Wesson K-frame (Model 10, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 66, etc.)
  • Smith & Wesson L-frame (Model 386, 586, 686, 696, etc.)
  • Smith & Wesson N-frame (Model 27, 29, 57, 625, 629, etc.)
  • Smith & Wesson X-frame (Model 460, 500)
  • Does NOT fit the 5-screw pre-Model 10 or 1917 frames

Key Features

  • Hardened steel construction with controlled tip hardness for consistent primer crush
  • Reduced-power return spring included in package
  • Drop-in fit for factory-spec firing pin channels
  • Designed to work with reduced-power mainsprings (e.g., 13-15 lb) without losing ignition
  • Compatible with both factory and aftermarket hammer assemblies

Install Difficulty

Level 2 of 5 — Requires removal of the side plate, hammer block, and mainspring assembly. Tools needed: gunsmith screwdrivers (hollow-ground), brass or nylon punch, small hammer. Expect 20-40 minutes for first-time install. Retaining pin is staked; use a press or punch to drift it out. Return spring is a direct swap.

FAQ

Will this pin fit a Model 686 with a factory hammer?

Yes. The pin is a direct replacement for the factory firing pin in L-frame revolvers. Use the included return spring. No fitting required unless the channel is obstructed or burred.

Does this pin require a reduced-power mainspring to function?

No. It works with factory mainsprings. The benefit is most noticeable when using a lighter mainspring (e.g., 13-15 lb) where factory pins may produce intermittent light strikes.

Is this the same pin included in the kit?

Yes. This is the identical firing pin and return spring included in the centerfire revolver hammer kits. It is sold separately for replacement or for builds that only need the pin assembly.
