It solves the problem of securely holding the barrel in a vertical orientation to precisely cut the barrel hood length to match the host slide. The fixture is not intended for fitting the bottom pad; that operation requires the barrel to be placed on parallels in a vise with the top flat against the parallels and the vise jaws holding the barrel walls.
