It solves the problem of holding a 1911 barrel in the correct position while you file the barrel hood to length and width for slide fitment. Without this fixture, maintaining proper alignment and consistent pressure during hood filing is difficult, leading to uneven material removal or improper lockup. This fixture secures the barrel in the correct orientation, allowing precise, repeatable hood fitting work. Available in aluminum or 3D Polymer construction.

Are the 3D Polymer tools as good as the aluminum versions?
Per the designer, the 3D Polymer versions are generally superior to the aluminum tools. The polymer material provides better grip on the barrel surface and reduces the risk of marring the barrel finish during fitting.
Will this work with a ramped 2011 barrel?
No. This fixture is designed for standard 1911 barrels with non-ramped hoods. Ramped barrels (2011 pattern) require a different fixture.
Can I use this without a bench vise?
Technically yes, but not recommended. The flat underside is machined specifically for vise jaw clamping. Hand-holding the fixture during filing reduces accuracy and increases risk of uneven hood cuts.
