This is a 5” direct drop-in ported barrel for the FN 509, specifically engineered for use with Apex ported slides. The barrel’s five port vents align precisely with the corresponding slide ports when the barrel is in battery, channeling high-pressure gas upward to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil. The primary problem it solves: standard barrel/slide configurations on the FN 509 can produce noticeable muzzle flip under rapid fire; this ported design mitigates that without adding compensator weight or length.
Compatibility
- FN 509 (full-size, 5” barrel models)
- Apex 5” ported slides (latest generation; port vents must match barrel port alignment)
- Does NOT fit factory FN 509 non-ported slides – host slide must have port vents that align with barrel ports
- Not compatible with FN 509 Compact, FN 509 Midsize, or FN 509 Tactical (unless slide is swapped to Apex 5” ported slide)
Key Features
- Manufactured from a cold hammer forged blank of heat-treated stainless steel
- 1:10 twist rate
- Recessed target crown for improved accuracy
- 5-port design to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil
- Black Melonite finish for corrosion resistance and reduced glare
- 100% manufactured in the USA (Phoenix, AZ)
- Direct drop-in fit for Apex 5” ported slides – no fitting required
Install Difficulty
Level: 2/5 (Basic disassembly/reassembly of FN 509 slide). Requires: standard punch set, non-marring hammer, bench block. Barrel drops into Apex slide with no modification. Expect 10–15 minutes if you’ve worked on an FN 509 before.
FAQ
Will this barrel work with my factory FN 509 slide?
No. The host slide must have port vents that align with the barrel ports. Using this barrel in a non-ported slide will cause hot gas to vent into the frame, potentially causing structural failure. Only use with Apex 5” ported slides designed for this barrel.
Does this barrel require a specific recoil spring?
No. The ported design reduces felt recoil, so the factory FN 509 recoil spring assembly (or Apex’s equivalent) works as-is. If you experience cycling issues, check ammo load – light 115-grain target loads may need a lighter spring, but this is not common.
What is the expected accuracy improvement?
The recessed target crown and cold hammer forged blank provide a consistent, accurate bore. Porting primarily reduces muzzle rise for faster follow-up shots; absolute mechanical accuracy is similar to a high-quality non-ported barrel. Expect sub-2” groups at 25 yards with match ammo.
